This Monday, April 11, at Grau-du-Roi, the gendarmes arrested suspects after thefts of catalytic converters this Sunday in Palavas in the Hérault.
The gendarmes of Grau-du-Roi and their colleagues from Hérault arrested suspects on Monday after thefts of catalytic converters, the day before in Palavas in Hérault. A suspicious vehicle had been spotted and identified by the gendarmes.
The loot – several catalytic converters – was found by the gendarmes in motorhomes parked in Grau-du-Roi.
Thefts and trafficking of catalytic converters that contain rare metals (platinum, palladium, rhodium) are increasing in France. These coveted rare metals sell for several hundred or even several thousand euros per kilogram. The purchase price of rhodium, which is more expensive than gold, reached the price of 522 euros per gram.
Which models are the most affected?
The cars concerned by these acts are mainly Twingo and Clio, light models, easy to handle. The criminals are thus more at ease to operate. Given the price of a catalytic converter (500 to 600 €), some victims hesitate given the age of their vehicle. Other models targeted include the Toyota Prius and Auris.
