Symbio, Faurecia, Michelin chosen by the California Energy Commission (CEC)

(AOF) – The California Energy Commission (CEC) has selected Symbio, Faurecia, Michelin, along with GTI and other industry partners, to develop and demonstrate a Class 8 hydrogen-powered truck for regional transportation, as main contributors to the state-backed zero-emission hydrogen mobility initiative.

The “Symbio H2 Central Valley Express” project, supported to the tune of $2 million by the CEC, aims to develop a hydrogen fuel cell truck whose performance will be equivalent to that of a 15-litre diesel truck, thus offering a zero-emission solution for the intensive use of regional transport.

Before the end of 2023, the truck will travel for 12 months on a 650 kilometer route between the Inland Empire and the northern San Joaquin Valley. Crossing California natural gas utility territory, the truck will use hydrogen infrastructure provided by Air Liquide, Shell and Trillium, among others.

This hydrogen truck project aims to support the state of California in its goal of achieving a carbon neutral economy by 2045.
