The A4 is becoming a traffic jam again: diagnosis of concrete cancer!

From April to November, the road surface on the A4 will be renewed between the Dresden-West triangle and the Dresden-Neustadt junction.

Dresden – This looks like the next big traffic jam on the A4: From April there will be between the triangle Dresden-West and the Dresden-Neustadt junction renewed the road surface. Diagnosis: concrete cancer.

“The final traffic concept is currently being coordinated,” explains Tino Möhring (38) from the Halle branch of the federal motorway company. One thing is already certain: construction will take place while traffic continues to flow. With how many lanes is open. He fears difficulties especially for the initial phase.

And what about traffic jams? “There will be traffic restrictions,” says Möhring cautiously. How that will work out remains to be seen.

Detours are only available when necessary. Nevertheless, those affected fear detour traffic. The residents of Tanneberg (between Nossen and Wilsdruff) and along the S36 still have bad memories of the situation with the bridge construction sites from last year.

But there are no alternatives to the work. Möhring: “With up to 130,000 vehicles per day, this section is one of the busiest in Germany.” In some cases, heavy goods traffic accounts for more than 30 percent of this. “The useful life has simply been reached.”

What makes the 6.7 million euro construction work even more urgent is the so-called alkali-silica reaction, which attacks the roadway concrete. In plain English: concrete cancer.

That’s why it’s already starting in April, and preparatory work could start as early as March. Everything will probably be ready by November. Bon voyage where possible!
