RIO DE JANEIRO – Illegal gold mining in Brazil’s largest indigenous reserve has risen sharply, according to a new report. Last year, illegal gold miners devastated 3,272 hectares of land in the Yanomami reserve in the Amazon rainforest, according to the report released Monday by the Hutukara Associacao Yanomami (HAY). This corresponds to a record increase of 46 percent.
