According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Ferrell will play the boss of a toy company. Whether this is the Barbie manufacturer Mattel is not yet known.
There are also no details about the plot of “Barbie” yet. However, sources are said to have told the “Hollywood Reporter” that it is a meta story. So the story could play on several levels. Ferrell’s commitment as a toy manufacturer alongside Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken would speak for this.
Ferrell has previously starred in a similar project. In “The Lego Movie” (2014) he played a boy’s father who designed the Lego-style animated story in his childhood bedroom.
“Barbie”: Eight years in the making
A live action movie about Barbie was announced in 2014. Comedian Amy Schumer (40) was intended for the title role. In 2019, Margot Robbie took over. The ‘Suicide Squad’ actress is also producing the film.
“Barbie” is directed by indie icon Greta Gerwig (38, “Little Women”, “Lady Bird”). Her husband Noah Baumbach (52, “Marriage Story”) wrote the screenplay with her.
Barbie is slated to hit theaters in 2023. There is no specific date yet.
