Postponement of Execution team faces biggest challenge ever: ‘No chance’

If the need was ever great, it’s in the latest episode of ‘Postponement of Execution’. Robin and Rasha live together with their two daughters forced and illegally in a holiday chalet and have to move out in a week. But without a residence permit, income and savings it is impossible to find a new home. Will Martijn and his team be able to find a new home in time?

“It is debilitating not to see a way out”

The story of Robin and Rasha begins as a fairy tale. Rasha, who is originally from Egypt, has been living in the Netherlands for a while when she bumps into Robin. The two work together in a hotel and immediately clicked. After two months, Robin moves in with Rasha, in her Haarlem apartment. Their carefree existence comes to an end when Rasha’s mother is diagnosed with liver cancer. After much deliberation, both Robin and Rasha decide to quit their jobs so that they can take care of Rasha’s mother in Egypt. Once there, Rasha becomes pregnant with a daughter. Robin manages to find a nice job in Egypt and the three of them form a family. When Rasha becomes pregnant again, they decide to go to the Netherlands, because their oldest daughter is now old enough for primary education.

And it doesn’t stop there: when she returned, Rasha had to apply for a new residence permit for herself, but she is still waiting for that. If Robin also loses his job in corona time, they have a big problem. They are not allowed to be registered anywhere and are therefore forced to live at another holiday park. Rasha cannot apply for benefits because she does not have a residence permit and cannot find a job for the same reason. Because they also have no money to travel to Egypt, they cannot obtain the necessary stamp they need to recognize their child in the Netherlands. In addition, they also have to leave their chalet in a week, because it has been sold.

Rasha especially feels very guilty about the current situation. “I’m the one who incurs costs but brings in nothing.” Robin can no longer see the wood for the trees. “It is debilitating not to see a way out,” he sums up the situation. Martijn Krabbé’s team soon realizes that they have a tough task. Real estate agent Alex Keulen does not ignore it: “Social rent is not an option, because they are not registered, so there is no chance. A private home has no chance and buying is also no chance.”

Miraculously, Alex manages to find a place to live at the last minute: they are allowed to live in a family shelter temporarily. When Robin also turns out to have found a job, some light shines at the end of the tunnel. Budget coach Eef van Opdorp knows how to ensure that Rasha finally gets her residence permit, which means that she can travel to Egypt with Robin to get the stamp they need to recognize their daughter.

At the end of the episode, Alex has the ultimate surprise: he has found a home for the family that he will first completely take care of. Everything is done to give the family a nice home and when it turns out that Rasha has also found a job, all problems seem to have been solved. The family cries when they see their new home. “Wow, this can’t be right?”, Rasha stammers. “It’s really too much.” Martijn is also more than satisfied with what he and his team have achieved in a short time. “This is one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever done,” he concludes at the end of the episode.
