The best way to celebrate Peruvian Children’s Day is by taking them to vaccinate, protecting them against various diseases, especially against covid-19, said the Minister of Health, Jorge López Peña.
The immunization of children is advancing steadily in the country, but requires greater perseverance on the part of parents, said the head of the Minsa, upon leaving the multisectoral fair for child care services, held in the Park of Las Leyendas, as part of the activities for the celebration of the Peruvian Children’s Day.
“61% of children between the ages of 5 and 11 have already received their first dose of the vaccine and 40% have already received the second dose. We are moving forward and that thanks to the efforts of health professionals. I ask the population to continue coming to the vaccination centers, not to neglect their children, we do not want to have them in an ICU bed”, he exhorted.
López Peña reiterated that the supply of vaccines against covid-19 is guaranteed for all age groups and that an important batch is received every week.
Although the numbers of infections and hospitalizations are down, the minister ruled out that the use of the double mask will no longer be used as a preventive measure against a contagion of covid-19.
“The studies we have from the National Institute of Health and Epidemiology do not (indicate) that the mask is going to stop being used. We know that we are going down in the number of patient cases, but nothing rules out that we could have a new wave of the pandemic.”
He indicated that Minsa experts are preparing new heat maps to determine where the populations with the best vaccination rates are located in order to allocate larger immunization brigades.
“The brigades are going house to house to look for people who cannot go to vaccinations, either because they are older adults, families with young children, among others,” he explained.
The Ministry of Health (Minsa) held a multisectoral services fair in order to bring the main State services closer to the child population.
This campaign had the participation of different sectors of the State such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Women, the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Production, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior, and the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC).
The Minsa was present with various services: vaccination against covid-19, ruling out infection, demonstration sessions on complementary feeding, educational talks on oral health, play and communication in children from zero to 24 months of age; as well as delivery of mask kit.
