Russia-Ukraine War Eats New Victims? India

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The war between Russia and Ukraine is likely to take a “new victim” namely India. The United States (US) will put pressure on the country.

This is related to India’s neutral stance on Russia’s attack on Ukraine, which was launched on February 24. This Monday (11/4/2022), it is known that US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi are scheduled to meet virtually.

India’s neutral stance on the war in Ukraine has raised concerns around Washington. India is actually a US ally in Asia Pacific through QUAD, along with Japan and Australia.

But India has never criticized the Kremlin. Even Moscow officials praised for his attitude.

“President Biden will continue our close consultation on the consequences of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and mitigate its destabilizing impact on global food supplies and commodity markets,” Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement on Sunday citing Reuters.

Although India is an ally of the US, India has recently also purchased Russian air defense systems. Defense analysts say Russian supplies, which India considers, are more cost-competitive and vital to confronting China’s superior military.

India is also buying Russian oil, at least 13 million barrels since it invaded Ukraine. In fact, the move, theoretically the data causes sanctions from the US.
