the scandal: – His career is not over

The board of the Oscar Academy came on Friday night with the news that skuespiller Will Smith (53) refused to attend the Oscars for the next ten years, after he beat comedian Chris Rock (57) on stage.

Now Christopher Pahle, film critic in Dagbladet, tells what he thinks about the Oscar Academy’s decision.

– I thought a bit that the academy felt that they had to do something, even though he has already withdrawn. In that sense, there is not much difference, but I guess they would also mark that they distance themselves, so that he does not get completely ahead, Pahle says in the introduction.

– Incredibly large

According to Pahle, Smith is considered one of the world’s biggest movie stars, and got a kick start on his career in, among other things, “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. He has also been seen in a number of major films and has been seen as an action hero in Hollywood.

– That is what makes this so incredibly big. He hunted for the statuette for 30 years, he has had a refined image all year, and has been considered a nice and steady guy. But then this happens 15 minutes before he receives the award, Pahle says.

– What does it really mean that he is now banned?

– He has already resigned, which means that he can not vote at the distribution. Now that he is banned, he can not participate in the actual distribution or other events that are under the auspices of the academy. It is still unclear whether he can still be nominated for an Oscar, but he will keep the statuette.

Now, however, many are wondering if this will be the end of Smith’s years of film career. Pahle, on the other hand, is adamant that it is not.

– I’m sure he still wants a film career. You always see that people love a good comeback story. And he has played the cards well after this. He has complained, and now said he accepts the academy’s decision. So he is a repentant sinner and people like that, says Pahle.

– He was to film “Bad Boys 4” which has been put on hold, like other projects. But it will probably recover eventually. His image will change, but there are still many who have done much worse things than this, he adds.

– The scandal of the times

When asked if Pahle has seen anything similar to the Oscar scandal, he answers the following:

– It’s really big, we can say it’s entertainment news, but it gets a bigger meaning beyond itself. He is a representative of a minority, so it has a bit to say there, he says, and adds:

– In addition, it was filmed live, so right now I do not come to a similar event. This is the scandal of the times.

– Has he received a lot of support or reactions?

– I think it has been quite divided. My impression is that he got a lot of support in the beginning, but then it has changed a bit. Many have supported the human being, but the vast majority have distanced themselves from the action. Even those who may understand it to some degree. Rock has also been criticized, as well as the broadcast itself.
