The World Pizza Championship, the most important contest in the world in the field that takes place annually in Parma (Italy), has come to an end, and the Argentine team once again demonstrated that it is among the best in the world.
In the 29th edition, Argentina participated in the “World Pizza Team” category where it competed with 22 teams from different countries. The top 7 places went to Italian teams. The Argentine team obtained eighth place, making the “Argentine” pizza the second most important worldwide.
Each team that appears in this category is made up of six professional pizza masters who add points for their country, and the Argentine team was only preceded by the local (“Italian”) team.
This important achievement was due to the selection presented by Apyce (the entity that brings together all the pizzerias and empanada houses in the Argentine Republic) that chooses professionals who train, who study constantly, master the technique, competing in the annual federal championships that the entity organizes, and that with an outstanding career are considered suitable to represent our flag in this championship that brought together 762 professionals from all over the world on this occasion
The objective of the Argentine team was to overcome the positions obtained in previous years and had the opportunity to prove it once again in this edition with excellent scores.
Results obtained in the World Cup
The Argentine who was awarded as “Best Classified by Argentina” was Mauro Dávila Gasco, teacher of the teachers of Apyce who obtained the best score of all the Argentines who participated in the World Cup. He in turn obtained a 4th place in the world in “Pizza in Pala” out of 117 participants.
Hugo Bazán from Salta obtained 4th place in the “In Teglia” Pizza category out of 89 participants. In this way he surpassed the achievement obtained in the last edition (2019) where he had achieved a 9th place.
Argentina had the opportunity to shine in the “Pizza in Pala” category with a 10th place obtained by maestro Miguel Villalba. In this way, Argentina took over this category, achieving two positions among the top 10 in the world.
In “Classic Pizza”, the most attended of the contest, surpassing 400 competitors, Argentina obtained positions in the 25th, 38th and 54th places, achieving an outstanding performance for the first time in the history of the pizza world championships.
In the category “Gluten-free pizza” with extreme rigor in the handling and origin of food, the Argentine team obtained a 12th second place (Federico Dominguez Fontán de Bariloche) and 18th. place (by the team leader) over 80 participants.
In the category “Neapolitan” (STG – Traditional Specialty Guaranteed) where pizza declared by UNESCO as intangible heritage of humanity, property and emblem of the Italians, Argentina obtained a 14th place (Diego Dávila Gasco) out of 74 participants. qualified and certified for the category.
