Pokemon Go’s Mega Evolutions, the system by which you can temporarily upgrade your little monsters, looks set to undergo a major overhaul, making the process that much better.
A data analysis of the PokeMiners (opens in new tab) suggests that Pokémon Go will change mega evolutions into a new level system in its next update (thanks, Eurogamer (opens in new tab)). He says you’ll be able to upgrade your Pokemon’s temporary evolutions by a number of levels, unlocking perks like extra XP, reduced ability cooldowns, and more berries.
The data also revealed a free Mega Evolution icon, which suggests that you’ll be able to (from time to time) upgrade your Pokémon to a new level for free.

Pokémon Go’s Mega Evolution system has been a pain point for fans of the game ever since the mechanic was added in 2020. Currently, players need to collect enough energy to trigger one of the temporary evolutions, with resources being obtained from Mega Raids. walking with your pokémon or in special investigations.
Getting them in Mega Raids doesn’t just depend on other players joining, but the amount of Mega Energy you earn is lousy. You need to complete a bunch in order to get enough to upgrade your pokémon.
On top of that, Mega Evolutions only last four hours, so many players feel that they’re not worth the effort.
The Mega Evolution icon mentioned in the data suggests that we can easily evolve our Pokémon without breaking a sweat. Also, the level system would make the buffs more worthwhile or make the mega evolution last longer.
Please note that these changes have not been announced or confirmed by Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, and the final result may differ from what is presented in this article. But that data analysis shows that a change is coming, and it will be welcomed by Pokémon Go fans angry with the current system.
