Fire at Home Depot – NBC 7 Dallas (39)

SAN JOSÉ – Fire crews are battling a five-alarm fire at a Home Depot near Oakridge Mall in south San José and evacuating a pet hospital-hotel in the area.

According to the San Jose Fire Department, it appears that all of the employees and dozens of customers escaped safely from the store. There were no reports of the fire spreading to an adjacent neighborhood.

A large plume of thick, black smoke from the fire, located in the 900 block of Blossom Hill Road, can be seen from many miles away in the South Bay.

Firefighters added that they received reports that the fire may have started near the lumber sales area, but they are still investigating the origin of the fire.

Crews from NBC’s sister station Bay Area are on the scene and reported seeing parts of the roof collapsing.

The pet hospital-hotel located in the area was evacuated with the 70 animal guests that were there at the time. Fire officials said people looking to reunite with their pets should head to Golfland in Winfield.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department is assisting in the response to combat the fire.

San Jose firefighters insisted on asking residents and workers in the area to take shelter due to the fire and smoke.

They added that nearby residents should close all doors and windows to minimize smoke entering their homes.
