Following the failed battle against the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Russia has identified a new main target: the Donbas region, in the east of the country. The Russian authorities themselves have announced this.
There are the two separatist-controlled counties of Luhansk and Donetsk. They are partly controlled by Russian-backed separatists.
