By launching in Paris, in June 2020, The Quequetterie as a corner of one of its restaurants in the capital, Taziana Jurdi did not imagine that the concept of selling sex-shaped pastries would be reproduced, less than two years later, in several cities in France and even beyond our borders. “I thought the idea would work well in Paris, but I was far from imagining the current success,” she confides.
Fluffy pancakes shaped like penises and vulvas
A little throwback… At that time, the restaurants were closed due to the health crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The young Venezuelan restaurateur, who trained in Paris in pastry and cooking, is forced to cease her activities. To save her business, she launched, earlier than expected, a new concept what she had in mind: fluffy pancakes shaped like penises and vulvas. “Initially, I preferred to opt for a corner in one of my restaurants,” recalls the business manager.
“It took until January 2021 for things to accelerate. Following a photo posted and widely relayed on social networks, the press became interested in my business and everything took off,” rejoices Taziana Jurdi.
La Quequetterie, “funny but not vulgar”
For her, no way to shock, nor to play in vulgarity. ” France is a multicultural country and I thought these cakes might amuse and entertain, without being vulgar. The important thing for me was to give a smile to my customers when the period was very gloomy”.
Arrived from a country where the multicultural is omnipresent, with an Italian mother and a Lebanese father, Taziana Jurdi did not hesitate long before launching. And it is ultimately La Quequetterie that will save its business from the consequences of the health crisis.
A brand that has become a franchise
This success will soon attract attention and encourage some to open franchises all over France. “The brand has values and there is no question of signing a franchise if these values are not respected. It’s the same for recipes. That we are in Paris, Lille, Toulouse or Dijon, the pastries must be the same : same presentations and same tastes” insists the young woman. Committed to offering quality products, it does not envisage the evolution of its brand otherwise.
In France, Switzerland and elsewhere
“Obviously, the first time, our customers come for the humorous side, for the photo. But my idea is that they then come back for taste and no longer just for the entertainment side. It’s very important to me” confides the one who has just signed for 6 new franchises in Switzerland after the 5 brands already open outside Paris.
I am currently in negotiations so that La Quequetterie can set up in other cities in France but also in other countries.
