Expires last batch of Moderna in Guatemala; 930 thousand still lack a second dose

The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) confirmed the expiration of the remaining four lots of Moderna vaccine in Guatemala.

Until April 8, more than 900,000 people still lacked the second dose of this biological to complete the vaccination schedule, according to official data from the portfolio.

Moderna has been the most administered vaccine in Guatemala, making up 43.09% of the first doses applied, 41.68% of the second doses, and 47.59% of the booster doses.

Despite the above, until the last update, the country had only 47.87% of its target population fully vaccinated.

FOUR LOTS EXPIRED IN APRIL

The report from the National Center for Biologicals (CNB), shared by La Hora, indicates that until April 1 Guatemala had 1 million 547 thousand 360 Moderna vaccines, distributed in four batches:

– Batch 067H21A: 76 thousand 810 doses
– Batch 066H21A: 531 thousand 50 doses
– Batch 069H21A: 506 thousand 50 doses
– Batch 070H21A: 433 thousand 450 doses

Likewise, the expiration dates for each of them were scheduled for April 3, 4, 6 and 7. 1 million 470 thousand 550 of these units came from the donation of the United States.

MORE THAN 900 THOUSAND SECOND DOSES PENDING

For Friday, April 8, one day after the last doses expired, the Ministry of Health portal recorded 3 million 455 thousand 813 people with the first dose of Moderna, but 2 million 525 thousand with the second dose.

In other words, there is still a deficit of 930,813 people who need to complete the immunization schedule.

On the other hand, until the last update, 1 million 199 thousand 952 people were registered with the reinforcement of this pharmaceutical company.

MSPAS WILL SEEK ACQUISITION OF VACCINES

La Hora consulted with the Ministry of Health if the replacement of expired vaccines will be sought, to which Social Communication of the portfolio replied: “the Ministry of Health is taking steps to enter a new batch.”

VACCINES WILL EXPIRE BETWEEN APRIL AND JUNE

Until April 1, the National Center for Biologicals had Sputnik V, AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines; according to the information shared, they will all expire between the end of April and June.

On April 30, 601,460 AstraZeneca units will expire; and 889 thousand 594 second components of Sputnik V.

On May 31, 1 million 132 thousand 200 of AstraZeneca will expire; and on June 30, the expiration of 526 thousand 62 of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer is expected.
