3:1 in Frankfurt: BR Volleys are in the final of the German championship

It was a close exchange of blows in Frankfurt – and in the end the BR Volleys celebrated: The defending champion won the fourth game of the semi-final series on Saturday evening 3-1 (29:27, 23:25, 26:24, 25:21). The Berliners won the ‘Best-of-Five’ series 3-1 and are in the final of the German Volleyball Championship. In the finals, the BR Volleys meet VfB Friedrichshafen for the ninth time in a row.

The game in the ball sports hall in Frankfurt was largely at eye level. The guests needed five set balls in the first round before substitute Matthew West scored the decisive point with a sophisticated float serve.

However, the narrow loss of a set did not take the Hessians’ self-confidence nor their mood to play. In the case of the Berliners, Benjamin Patch lacked the usual penetrating power in the diagonal position. Marek Sotola, who came on for him early on, also had problems scoring against strong defenders from Frankfurt. The Hessians managed to equalize to 1:1.

And the problems with the favorites from Berlin continue. Even when the BR Volleys had taken a 22:18 lead in the third round after a successful attack by Jeffrey Jendryk, they got themselves into trouble again after a series of 1:5 points. A block by Sotola ultimately ensured the 2-1 set lead.

The final section was also tight. The hosts lost their way after a 21:20 lead. Under the serve of the strong Frenchman Timothee Carle, the BR Volleys made the victory and the finals perfect.
