Pakistani Prime Minister Is Still Voted Out By Parliament

There has been a lot of talk about the motion over the past week. Just before the vote started, the Speaker of the House of Commons resigned because of the deadlock that had developed around the motion.

Last Sunday, Prime Minister Khan asked the president to dissolve the House of Commons and call new elections to avoid a vote of no confidence. But the Supreme Court did not agree and ruled that the vote had to go ahead before Sunday.

‘American conspiracy’

Khan then called on his supporters to take to the streets to demonstrate. According to him, there is an American conspiracy, intended to put him aside. Washington has denied those allegations.

Khan, 69, is a former top cricketer who took office as prime minister in 2018. His promise at the time to found a new Pakistan did not come to much. It is believed that Khan came to power at the time with support from the military. Four years later, that love seems to have cooled, experts say.

The House of Commons will now appoint a successor. New elections will be held in October next year.
