Director Matīs Kaži liked to make films in one frame, which requires huge concentration and interaction from the whole creative group, especially cinematographer Aleksandrs Grebņevs. The satirical comedy “Taste of Water” combines elements of both cinema and theater.
“It ‘s a one – frame story just like [filma] “Cinema and we”, only this is much more complicated, first of all, because the operator uses a “zoom” lens, which means that within a single frame it is possible to change plans as you zoom in on the remote. Secondly, we have 23 decorations in 2 pavilions located in different parts of Riga and a drive through the middle. There are opportunities to make mistakes on every corner, and we only filmed the film on the last day of filming out of five, because this type of work requires maximum concentration from all departments. If someone makes a mistake, it ‘s a return to the beginning and all that hour and forty – five minutes have to be filmed again, “Matissas Kaža outlined the challenges of working on the film.
“The Taste of Water” plays on people’s weaknesses, their pursuit of freedom, and their submission to the manipulations of a charismatic Master. The journalist, played by Iveta Poles, investigates the mysterious organization “Water Homes” and what lies behind a million-dollar project where people purify themselves with specially structured water. The hero, called the Master by the actor Viļa Daugiņa, is able to tell how to live properly, exposing people in times of weakness.
“This psychological combination is visible to us all the time, even near the eastern neighbors, there is also one charismatic man with tens of millions of followers who are absolutely convinced that what he is saying is good, that they are being lifted off the road. , “a comparison was offered by Vilis. “The Ukrainian context probably adds another dimension to it: thinking, not thinking or listening, agreeing to currents or directions. Therefore, one must always have an open heart and an open mind, an open mind, look carefully and analytically at what is happening in the world and what kind. water is offered to you. “
The screenplay for the film was created in collaboration with all the actors, creating scenes in the process of improvisation.
“I very much hope that the film can be read in more than one direction, that everything that is offered in life is bad, that is the tricky place. “It ‘s not always a good idea, but it’ s not always a bad one – both good and bad things can be done with good ideas,” said actor Jānis Skutelis. “It intrigued me in this story that nothing is unequivocal there, and many things sound good from what our Master says, but when you mix something good and true with something selfish, anything weird can come together.”
From April 8, the film “Long Water” will be shown in the cinema “Forum Cinemas”.
