Dutch boy (13) who went missing while diving in Malaysia died

Father and son were diving along with two others off the southeastern coast of Malaysia when they were swept up by a strong current.

There was confusion about the boy’s age. According to foreign media, he was 14, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that he is 13 and would not turn 14 until August. Foreign Affairs provides consular assistance to the Dutch mother.

According to the instructor, the group surfaced after an hour of diving, but the boat had disappeared. Then they were swept away by a strong current and the Norwegian lost sight of the rest.

Captain arrested

The captain of the boat was arrested by the police after the incident because he was under the influence of drugs when he was driving the boat.

The search for the boy was moved to Indonesian waters. According to the Malaysian authorities, given the current it is obvious that the boy was driven there. Malaysia will remain involved in the search.
