It Bitcoin news is dominated today by the presentation of Jack Mallers, founder of Zap and a well-known Bitcoiner. His company has entered into several collaborations that will facilitate the adoption of bitcoin (BTC) as a payment method could give a huge boost. For example, companies like McDonald’s, Aldi and Walmart could start accepting BTC!
Bitcoin Lightning Network adoptie
Maller announced during a presentation to the Bitcoin 2022 event to have partnered with Shopify, Blackhawk Network and NCR. With this, the Strike wallet is integrated into all Shopify websites and can therefore make payments in bitcoin via the Lightning Network (LN) received. “Any online merchant using Shopify can accept payments without the 1949 Boomer network, receive the money immediately, cash and final, no middleman, and no 3% fees,” said Mallers.
Perhaps even more striking is the collaboration with Blackhawk Network and NCR. They serve big brand names such as McDonald’s and Walmart with software for point-of-sale terminals† One of Mallers’ presentation slides shows all of these names that can now receive bitcoin through the LN.
These names could already integrate Strike this year, but it is unclear if and when they will do so. Nevertheless, the big news is that Maller’s company and big names like NCR are now working together. This could give a huge boost to the adoption of LN. Through this link shows how Mallers makes such a payment in a real American supermarket.
Bitcoin the next monetary evolution?
Bitcoin itself is relatively slow, especially when compared to payment processors such as Visa and MasterCard. But the LN can help as a scaling solution. It makes it possible to make small transactions with bitcoin very quickly and cheaply. This potentially allows bitcoin to compete with the current transaction processors. And that innovation and competition is desperately needed, Mallers believes:
“There hasn’t been a superior payment network since 1949 that allows us to innovate, build on financial inclusion and offer cheaper services, faster services. My grandfather used the same technology as me. That’s not American, that’s bullshit.”
A response from the bitcoin price remains unknown at the time of writing. For the past two days, BTC has been trading almost horizontally with no major moves.
