Now Cologne’s star striker also intervenes in the final sprint of the league. Anthony Modeste (33) is fit again after recovering from illness – and the hope for the home game against Mainz! Tony wants to shoot FC to the best season since the three-point rule was introduced, himself to the last major contract of his career. For this, the Frenchman warmed up together with Steffen Baumgart (50).
After the final training session on Friday afternoon (April 8, 2022), the head coach grabbed his goalscorer and made Modeste hot for Mainz with an extra shift (Saturday, April 9, 2022, 3:30 p.m.).
Baumgart delivered a series of crosses and passes to Tony, who banged the balls around the ears of keeper Matthias Köbbing (24). The coach kept urging his 15-goal man on: “Do it! Very good ending!” And at the end there was a satisfied pat on the back. After Modeste missed the 1-0 defeat against Union Berlin with a fever, he is ready for the last few weeks of the league!

“Since Seb Andersson will be out, the chances that he will start are correspondingly higher. It’s looking good at the moment, but the question is of course how he can handle the 90 minutes of intensity. Tony will be as well prepared as possible,” says Baumgart, looking ahead to Saturday.
Precisely because it is unclear how long Modeste will be able to hold out against Mainz after his illness break, the FC coach took on his entire offensive this week: “We have one who is running in front with 15 goals, everyone else is cruising around behind him three and a goal. It would be nice if we had four or five players who could have scored five or six goals.”
