Outraged by Suspended Status, Russia Exits UN Human Rights Council

Russia decided to leave the United Nations Human Rights Council (HAM)PBB) after the General Assembly suspended its membership status.

The United Nations General Assembly has agreed to suspend Russia’s membership status in the Human Rights Council in response to the alleged human rights violations committed by Moscow during the invasion Ukraine.

The Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Gennady Kuzmin, conveyed the decision shortly after the results of the opinion poll on the resolution to suspend Russia’s status with the support of 93 countries.

Kuzmin deemed the vote illegal and said his country decided to leave the membership as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Ukraine responded cynically to Russia’s decision.

On Thursday (7/4), the UN General Assembly held a poll to determine the temporary suspension of Russia’s membership status in the UN Human Rights Council.

According to the UN report, as many as 93 of the 193 member states of the Human Rights Council supported the resolution, 58 abstained, and 24 countries opposed it.

A number of countries that support the resolution are US allies, the Philippines, Georgia, Myanmar and others.

Those who rejected the resolution include Russia, China, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Vietnam.

“Those abstaining included India, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia,” the UN report said on its website. official.

The decision to suspend Russia as a member of the UN Human Rights Council was taken following reports of gross and systematic human rights violations committed by Russia against Ukraine, especially in Bucha.

Last week, the Ukrainian government reported finding hundreds of bodies around the capital Kyiv, including Bucha. The photos and videos have been circulating on social media.

The Kyiv government and Western countries have widely accused Russian forces of massacring the people. However, Moscow denied and denied the photos and videos were US propaganda.
