Pink Floyd have released a new song. In support of Ukraine

Supports Pink Floyd, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, used the voice of singer Andriy Chlyvňuk from the Ukrainian group Boombox (written in Cyrillic Bumboks), who is being treated for injuries caused by a mortar projectile in Kiev.

“Like many others, we were furious and frustrated as we witnessed a heinous invasion of an independent and peaceful democratic country and the assassination of its people by one of the world’s largest powers,” Gilmour explained in a press release.

“I recently read that Andrew left his American tour with Boombox to return to Ukraine and join the territorial defense,” said Pink Floyd.

On Instagram, he also saw a video shot in a square in Kiev, where the artist sings a folk song in a city quiet because of the war. “It was a strong moment that made me set it to music,” Gilmour explained.

He managed to make an appointment with Andrij, who had just been confined to a hospital bed in Kiev due to an injury. “I played a piece of the song on the phone and gave me my blessing. Maybe we will do something in person soon, “hopes Gilmour.

The visual of the composition represents a sunflower, one of Ukraine’s symbols, and is inspired by a video spreading on social networks, which depicts a Ukrainian woman insulting two armed Russian soldiers and throwing sunflower seeds at them – put them in her pockets to grow sunflowers until they bury them in graves.

“Putin must leave,” Gilmour tweeted at the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

All of Pink Floyd’s music (since 1987) and Gilmour’s solo songs have disappeared from Russian and Belarusian streaming sites as a “determined condemnation of the Russian invasion,” the group said.

Gilmour and Chlyvňuk sang together at a concert in London in 2015. The song was dedicated to Ukrainians who lost their lives a year earlier during the overthrow of the pro-Russian president in Kiev. Russian punks from Pussy Riot also performed at this concert.
