Director, actor and writer Richard Oh died on Thursday (7/4). Directors Gina S Noer and Joko Anwar confirmed the news of the hunting director’s departure.
“Has passed away, our strong friend, Richard Oh at Eka Hospital BSD, Thursday 7 April at 19.30 WIB,” wrote Richard Oh’s death news received CNNIndonesia.com from Joko Anwar, Thursday (7/4).
“The body will be buried tonight at the Bintaro Funeral Home. Tomorrow the body will be flown to Banjarmasin to be buried there,” the statement continued.
“Rest in peace, Richard Oh. Thank you for your contribution to the world of Indonesian literature and film,” wrote Gina S Noer in a tweet on Thursday (7/4).

Richard Oh is a filmmaker who is widely known in the Indonesian film industry. He first started his career in writing after studying at the Universities of Wisconsin, Madison, and UC Berkeley.
He started writing novels after the May 1998 moment. After that, he began to explore the world of publishing and was listed as a pioneer of the Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa award.
Richard Oh, who was born on October 30, 1959, began working in the film world by becoming a screenwriter and director of the film Koper in 2006. He also started to become an actor by starring in Cinta Setaman in 2008.
One of his iconic works was Melancholy is a Movement in 2015. The film he worked on and wrote featured Joko Anwar, Ario Bayu, Aming, Fachri Albar, and Renata Kusmanto.
He was involved in a number of popular films as an actor, such as in My Stupid Boss 2 in 2016, Yowis Ben in 2018, 27 Steps of May in 2018, Yowis Ben 2 in 2019 and Yowis Ben 3 in 2021.
Richard Oh had worked on the film Perburuan in 2019. The film starring Adipati Dolken and Ayushita was adapted from a novel with the same title by Pramoedya Ananta Toer.
It is noted that he worked on the film Waiting for Mother which was released in 2021 and was involved in the Buya Hamka project which is still in the production process.
