Ukrainian President Zelensky calls on Western politicians to impose a trade ban on Russian oil as soon as possible. He also continues to insist that Russian banks should be completely excluded from international payments.
As long as Russia continues to make money from oil exports, it need not take the peace talks seriously, Zelensky said in a video message. “The question is how many Ukrainian men and women still have to be killed by the Russian army before some politicians – and we know who they are – making decisions.” According to US Treasury Secretary Yellen, a freeze on imports would most likely lead to a huge surge in prices worldwide, hurting the US and its allies.
The United States yesterday announced new sanctions against Russian banks and, among others, the daughters of President Putin. According to Zelensky, this is “spectacular” news, but the measures do not go far enough.
