After months of consultation and hundreds of name proposals later, the choice was finally made. The future aquatic center located in Castelsarrasin becomes “Conflu’O”. Explanations.
The Terres des Confluences community of municipalities has launched a consultation
public to define the name of the aquatic center of the territory which will open its doors
in autumn 2022. After several selection phases, it is now official, the future aquatic center located in Castelsarrasin will be called Conflu’O. A play on words between “confluence” and “water”, true symbols of the territory.
The organization of this consultation took place in three stages. First, from the end of December until March 4, the population was asked to share their ideas via an online questionnaire. As a reminder, the proposed name had to be original, aesthetic, short and had to have a relationship with water. It had to be appropriate for the equipment in question. The name had to be a common name. Proper names and names of famous people have been excluded in accordance with the consultation rules.
323 name suggestions
A total of 178 people participated in this public consultation and 323 proposals emerged. “We thank all the people who participated in this great consultation and we look forward to seeing you in the fall for the first dives in this equipment so long awaited by the inhabitants of the territory of Terres des Confluences”, indicates the community of communes.
The second phase took place during the community office on March 8, the jury then made up of members of the office selected three suggestions from a shortlist of 158 names: O’Confluences, Conflu’O and Bassins des Confluences. The final decision fell to the councilors of the municipalities of the territory, the three names were therefore put to the vote at the conference of mayors on March 22.
The result of the vote is thus three votes for Bassins des Confluences, three votes for O’Confluences and it is therefore Conflu’O who wins with 10 votes for. All that remains is to wait a few more months before being able to take the first dive…
