At the moment, we stand firmly behind Mr Karimanski’s candidacy. This was said in the program “Face to Face” on BTV by the MP from “There is such a people” and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Iva Miteva on the occasion of the case with the two candidates of the ruling coalition for governor of the Bulgarian National Bank.
We accept that Andrey Gyurov from “We continue the change” and Lubomir Karimanski from “There are such people” have been nominated for governor of the central bank.
Asked to comment on the information that on Sunday the Prime Minister Kiril Petkov proposed to the coalition council that both nominations for head of the BNB be withdrawn and that a new common solution be sought, Miteva said:
“What the prime minister has said is surprising to me, because this topic has been in the public domain for a long time and not a word has been heard since his candidacy against him, including from our coalition partners.”
“At the moment, we stand firmly behind Karimanski’s candidacy. Not a word was heard against him until he was nominated, and after we announced him, they started looking for other candidates,” Miteva said of the election of a new BNB governor.
“I am convinced that Karimansky is firmly on the ground. There is no decision we have made against our will. Therefore, he believes that he will withstand the pressure and attacks. I think he said who tried to act against him.” she explained.
“Last night, the prime minister himself said that as prime minister he said he was behind Gyurov’s candidacy. Today I heard that Hristo Ivanov was behind Gyurov, but I have not heard that the BSP stands for him,” said the deputy speaker.
The BNB Governor should be elected because of his experience in banking, not to gain experience there. Unlike Mr Gyurov, Karimanski did not work in closed banks. I think that the professional training of Mr. Karimanski is much greater than that of Gyurov, “Miteva explained.
Miteva also commented on judicial reform:
“The investigating judge has been talked about for a long time, I guess this is an attempt to solve the problem with the resignation of the chief prosecutor,” the lawyer said, after Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said today that the magistrate who will be assigned to investigate the chief prosecutor will be elected from among the judges.
“As far as the SJC is concerned, we need to find a dialogue with each other, including the opposition. We have not spoken so far, but this conversation is forthcoming. There is a constitutional decision that says the mandate of a constitutionally established state body cannot be terminated by ordinary law. “she added.
