With a massive event Ivan Tovar Foundation opened the exhibition “Tovar: living surrealism”, an art show that highlights the Dominican painter who stood out around the world for his work in surrealism.
This sample is the first immersive art exhibition made in Dominican Republic (uses media such as technology, science, art and nature, and viewers are a fundamental part of living experiences) and will be open to the public from April 6 to June 6.
This exhibition used as a stage more than 500 meters of the Plaza España of the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, and the works will be presented in a tent that brings together within its projections and visual material, a selection of approximately 400 images including works, letters and photographs, which have been fully integrated by a team of specialists in immersive projection content and sound.

“Few immersive exhibitions have the happiness of having such a large number of works,” said Héctor José Rizek, a member of the Ivan Tovar Foundation, while thanking the collaboration of numerous collectors. This will allow visitors to navigate through the life of the artist and his peculiar iconography.
The exhibition, which is dedicated to the Dominican artist Iván Tovar, was inaugurated with the presence of President Luis Abinader, who assured that, with this event, “we put the culture of our country where it deserves to be: at the top” and added that “this exhibition marks, without a doubt, a before and after in the exhibition conception in our country and in the promotion of our artists inside and outside our borders”.

In the act, which took place a few days after the 80th anniversary of the artist’s birth, the family of Iván Tovar of the Order of Sánchez, Duarte and Mella was also presented posthumously.
Likewise, the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, made public the resolution that names a street in the capital with the name of the artist who, in addition, was named Adoptive Son of the city.
For his part, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, named Iván Tovar posthumous Ambassador of the Country Brand and presented the Ivan Tovar Foundationorganizer of the exhibition, the Marca País seal.
This act seeks to recognize the transcendence of an artist who exhibited in the 1960s alongside the greatest exponents of surrealism.
“Tovar: Surrealism Alive” is a sensory experience that will allow each person to delve into the work of this great artist thanks to new technologies to contemplate his entire world with a new perspective.
“The experience has its own identity, where the history of the country, the universality of the artist and the new possibilities of virtuality are combined,” explained Héctor José Rizek. A space full of audiovisual content has been developed for the exhibition, endowing the 550 square meters of immersive exhibition with state-of-the-art video projection and multi-channel audio systems.
