A few days before the release of its first album, the group Mauvais Sang, whose geography is somewhere between London, Paris, Geneva and Chamonix, retains a part of mystery which, without being total, has something deeply intriguing. In a music industry that constantly seeks to fit newcomers into boxes and the mechanics of comparisons, it is clear that with Mauvais Sang, this little game has something deeply puzzling about it, both what for a moment can be a truth and is not necessarily so the next one. New proof, with this video with exhilarating implicit abstraction, encompassing the sinuous introspective drifts of “Bushman Hole”, to discover in preview on indiemusic.
Between music and image, Bad blood cultivates an aesthetic coherence of great continuity since a first clip for the piece “Decor” already produced by drummer Antoine Vercellotti, but also a second recently for “3H47” under the impetus this time of guitarist Mathis Saunier. With this new clip for the song « Bushman Hole », the imaginary vehicle is always a deeply nocturnal soul, which evolves in the disturbing recesses of the night. The group does not take its name from the eponymous film by Leos Carax, released in 1986, by chance. no doubt. With them, romanticism is particularly exacerbated, it feeds on emptiness, absence, frustration, loneliness, silence, memories, pain, death. In fact, this post-modern romanticism needs the martial and electric energy of rock, in its most obsessive side, but it is also built like an inner dialogue in the form of a dreamlike realistic song. The real and the fiction thus become particularly porous: the banality of a child’s room can become, in a snap of the fingers, the place of the worst nightmares, of the most atrocious tortures. Water can be both the liberating element and the murderer element.
At the heart of the sordid and the anxiety-provoking then emerges an arid poetry, both cold and luminous; cold by its detachment, but also luminous by the instinctive power of the words and formulas used, amplified by the endless heroic quest of the main character. Musically, under the impetus of guitarist and composer Mathis Saunier, the five members of the group draw through “Bushman Hole”, a form of sonic intensity, baroque and radical somewhere between noise, industrial music and tribalism, which comes to embrace this slow egotrip with gothic reflections. It is difficult to envisage with precision (other than through text explanations) all the driving forces behind the creation of Mauvais Sang, in particular on this piece, so much the quintet stacks the layers of sounds such as cinematographic references, references to pop culture, poetry. What may seem like a very natural form of evidence in the words of Léo Simond, author and singer of the group, represents on the contrary a cryptic and enigmatic expression, fundamentally captivating, which will titillate the neurons and the imaginary. Reading after reading the clip, listening after listening to this piece, remains the permanent sensation of having attended a strange cathartic black mass, emerging from the depths of resentment, but activating against all odds the incandescent breath of life.
