Banks – Offenbach am Main – Aid from WIBank for companies because of the Ukraine war in prospect – Economy

Offenbach (dpa/lhe) – Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir promises support for Hesse’s companies because of the economic consequences of the Ukraine war. “The current crises – the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine – are having a massive impact on supply chains, energy and raw material prices and economic stability,” said the Green politician on Wednesday at the presentation of the WIBank balance sheet. With the WIBank one sees oneself armed for overcoming the Ukraine crisis. Together with the development bank, they are examining “how we can get the appropriate help for companies off the ground”.

In the second Corona year, the promotional institute of the state of Hesse increased its new business slightly compared to the previous year by around 200 million euros to 3.4 billion euros. This was mainly due to increased approvals for rental housing and urban development, increased infrastructure financing and higher broadband subsidies. “The events of the last few months and weeks make it clear how important it is to be able to react quickly and appropriately to new developments and general conditions,” said Gottfried Milde, spokesman for the management of Wirtschafts- und Verkehrbank (WIBank).

With its offers, the institute supports municipalities, companies and private individuals in actively promoting major transformation topics such as digitization or sustainability. According to the information, the need for corona-related support fell last year, while the demand for regular economic support increased significantly. In the past two years, WIBank has supported the economy in Hesse with corona aid totaling around 1.5 billion euros. The total funding volume remained almost constant in 2021 at EUR 23.5 billion (previous year: EUR 23.6 billion).
