Crystal Dynamics announces new Tomb Raider »Vortex

For today presentation Epic Games, dedicated to the release of the full version of Unreal Engine 5, also announced the development of another part of the Tomb Raider series from developers at Crystal Dynamics. It was not a formal announcement of the new game, as you would ideally imagine, but the developers said that development is in its infancy and the game – of course – will use the aforementioned Unreal Engine 5.

“Crystal Dynamics Studio is proud to be part of the launch of Unreal Engine 5,” said Tomb Raider manager Dallas Dickinson. He emphasized that the new technology could also be of great use to games that focus on storytelling and take opportunities to the next level. “And that’s why we can announce today that we’ve just started developing our new Tomb Raider to power the Unreal Engine 5,” Dickinson added. He also confirmed that the game will not experiment at least in the area of its genre, and again it will be a film-tuned action adventure, as Dickinson, according to fans not only from the publisher Square Enix, but also from the series as such.

Of course, it cannot be left out that the Crystal Dynamics studio, which has the first two parts of the new trilogy, is working on the game. However, the third game – Shadow of the Tomb Raider – was the fault of the people of Eidos Montreal, so it will be a double return. For Crystal Dynamics, working on a familiar brand can also work as a restart after the not very successful game Marvel’s Avengers, which, however, has not yet lost support and the developers are trying to work with it. something do.

Unreal Engine 5 also praises the RED Project CD

Another of the large studies that took part in the presentation of Unreal Engine 5 was the CD Projekt RED. Paweł Zawodny, Technical Director, spoke on behalf of the developer, who revealed that the transition to this technology was motivated by Unreal Engine 5’s emphasis on open world processing. Game director of the new Sorcerer Jason Slama then recalled last year’s medieval demo, which even included a message board with an advertisement for a monster hunter. “They were trying to tell us something in style – look, come see us, see how great your game can look on the Unreal Engine,” Slama said with a smile, underlining that he was very interested in this example.

The developers then indicated between the lines that despite the undeniable power of technology from Epic Games, it will be an entry into the unknown for them. Slama mentioned in particular the need to ensure that the open world is not broken by player intervention, which can have a much deeper impact on game mechanics than in the case of linear games. Art director Jakub Knapik then emphasized that developers can try new things and rely on the know-how of many studios that have been using Unreal Engine for a long time, thanks to pre-prepared procedures. According to Knapik, the technology from Epic Games is ideal for prototyping or for creating a realistic-looking environment in a very short time. “Epic and CD Project RED are two companies that want to achieve great things. We don’t want to end up just developing some tools. No, we will continue to work together to create something exceptional, “Zawodny concluded.
