REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG–Sikka District Health Office, East Nusa Tenggara declared the disease dengue fever Dengue (DHF) again claimed the life of a nine-year-old child in Maumere City. “It is true that one child died and now Sikka Regency has increased to two victims of DHF,” said Head of the Sikka Regency Health Office, Petrus Herlemus, Tuesday (5/4/2022).
He said the nine-year-old child who was still in elementary school was known to be referred too late to the TC Hillers Hospital. The victim has undergone an examination at a clinic in Maumere City. The doctor who worked at the clinic where the patient underwent an examination on Thursday (31/3/2022) had asked the patient’s parents to immediately take him from the clinic to TC Hillers Hospital.
“However, the patient’s parents did not heed it, so the next Friday he was brought to the TC Hillers Hospital,” he added.
When he arrived at the ER, TC Hillers Hospital, the patient’s blood was immediately taken and laboratory tests were carried out and it was discovered that the boy had DHF. During the process of traveling to the location of the TC Hillers Hospital itself, the patient is known to have experienced hematemesis or vomiting blood and getting worse.
The patient also complains of shortness of breath and difficulty eating and drinking because his stomach feels bloated and painful. With this incident, the Sikka Regency government appealed to its citizens not to be late in checking their child to the puskesmas or hospital if the child had a high fever.
Because if it’s too late it can be the same as two patients DHF victims in Sikka district experienced the same thing. Residents are also advised to maintain the surrounding environment, such as maintaining cleanliness and others so that it does not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes aedes aegypty.
