For once, Martien Meiland (60) does not have to play host himself: in ‘Viva la feta’ the Dutch lord of the castle is pampered for two days by Jani Kazaltzis and Otto-Jan Ham.

Ham notices that Meiland has two different eye colors. “I put a pair of scissors in my eye when I was four,” explains Martien again. “I was in hospital for a year and had nine operations. The scissors had gone all the way through my eyeball. I was the first in the Netherlands to receive a contact lens.”
Meiland also tells about his coming-out, at 40. “First I went to the doctor for a pill or a hormone injection so that I could get back to my old self. I was happy with my wife Erika and the children. Until a man kissed me. I saw my whole world collapse.” (dvg)
