RC Lens may have said goodbye to the top at the end of the 30th day of the championship. A defeat on the lawn of Strasbourg which stagnates the Sang et Or in the standings. Tenth, Lens finds himself 7 points behind Nice and fifth place. This season, when it should have started a positive series, Franck Haise’s men will have encountered difficulties. The good car stands out in the lead and the northerners have to settle for the middle of the table.
On the move on the lawn of the Menau of Strasbourgthe opportunity was perfect to resume one’s march forward for racing. A good opposition against the men of Julien Stephan. Lens was pointing at four units of their opponent of the day. A victory and the Blood and Gold could glean the three points for the second consecutive time. A series that has not been seen since January 2022 and victories against Rennes (1-0) then Saint-Etienne (1-2).
But Lens fell on stronger. The people of Strasbourg, carried by the duo Ajorque-Gameiro extinguished northern hopes shortly after the hour mark. The two teams played relatively evenly but the facts of the game were in favor of the Alsatians.
Two contenders for Europe for few places
The two beautiful surprises of the season, each pushed by a fiery public will have to fight to win a European qualification. The Lensois had however thirst for revenge after the defeat of the first leg at Bollaert (2-1). A stadium that had sounded hollow following the stadium ban on supporters, a consequence of overflows during the derby against Lille on September 18, 2021.
At La Meinau, Strasbourg only wononly once against Lens in the last five receptions. This Sunday’s victory put an end to the food shortage. One but sur penalty of the striker found Ludovic Ajorque. His first goal since January 9 against Metz. A timely return to form for the RCSA as they approach the final sprint. As for them, the Lensois will have to pull themselves together next week with the reception of Nice before diving into 100% in the northern derby within fifteen days.
On the way back as on the way out, the circumstances of the Racing duel leave many regrets…#RCSARCL pic.twitter.com/bIQWuyc5cf
