At least 12 people died in an attack by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters, on Sunday night to Monday, April 4, in the village of Masambo, (Ruwenzori Sector), in the territory of Beni, in the North -Kivu.
The news is confirmed to ACTUALITÉ.CD by the leader of Masambo Falcon Benga who explains that the attack began at 10 p.m. local time. The attackers came from Virunga Park, according to the same source.
The assailants also set fire to ten commercial houses and three dwellings. This is a provisional assessment at this stage.
Two people taken hostage were found on Monday morning. The movement of the assailants is reported in the neighboring village of Muramba, alerts the chief of Masambo who calls on the population to be vigilant.
This is the first ADF attack perpetrated in Masambo, since the activism of these assailants in the Beni region. This bloody attack comes as the Congolese and Ugandan armies carry out joint operations against the ADF in the region. But these operations do not prevent the attackers from attacking civilians. This Monday, parliament will once again authorize the extension of the state of siege in force since last May in North Kivu and Ituri.
