Diego Valdés converted his first goal as Águila in the match against Santos. A curious case, because he enforced the ‘law of the ex’. Later he did it against Toluca. More recently. he converted the winning goal against Necaxa. With that Diego already has three goals in his American history, a higher figure than Dos Santos ever had.

The Mexican had a disappointing step with America. The hiring of Gio caused some expectation, especially for the performance that one day he had in the Mexican National Team. However, with the azulcremas he could never score more than one goal per season. Dos Santos was not able to establish himself as a starter, much less be a determining player in Liga MX.

Giovani’s poor goalscoring quota was a reflection of his time at Coapa. Ultimately, the team decided not to renew his contract and ended his contract after two years. Thus began a search for a successor to the jacket ’10’ of America.

The number was later passed on to Sebastián Córdova, but he couldn’t stand out either. Shortly after inheriting the ’10’, Córdova was sold to Tigres. So he was left vacant and the next to occupy it was Diego Valdés.

The expectations for the Chilean were greater. His transfer was made for more than 10 million dollars. In addition to this, Valdés had repeatedly proven his quality in the League MX when he was a Santos player.

So far, after 9 games with América, Diego Valdés has performed better than Giovani Dos Santos. Time will tell if he can keep the momentum going or he will lose like the previous two.
