Failed to Fly, Paragliding Athlete Dies After Falling on Residents’ Roof, Allegedly Rushing Before Friday Prayers

KOMPAS.com – Paragliding athlete Yazid Khairil Azis (32) had an accident due to failing to fly and died on Friday (1/4/2022) at around 11.30 WIB.

Yazid is a resident of Rowobani Village, Banyubiru District, Semarang Regency.

That day, he and four of his colleagues took off from the peak of Mount Gajah, Nogosaren Village, Getasan District and will land at the Emerging Field of Rowobani Village, Banyubiru District.

Four of Yazid’s colleagues managed to take off and land. But the 32-year-old man who took off last, failed landing and fell in the house of a resident named Andi Setiawan.

Andi is a resident of Babadan Hamlet, Gedong Village, Banyubiru District, Semarang Regency.

Friday afternoon, Andi admitted that he heard a loud sound like an explosion when he was gathering with his family. When checked on the second floor of his house, the roof tiles, ceiling and ribs of Andi’s house have fallen.

“I was surprised why my house had a hole in the top, I immediately approached and looked up there was a small red kite. I thought it belonged to a small child because the object was still hovering over a distance of more than 600 meters,” he said.

His son and wife also saw the helmet. Meanwhile Andi himself saw the man who was on the floor in a motionless condition.

“After looking down, the first time I saw how come there was a helmet like a riding helmet, I thought it was the one who put the ceiling on my house, put on a helmet and left it on top.”

“Then I saw next to him that there was a victim falling from above and immediately I was shocked and my body immediately trembled,” said the owner of the house.

“I don’t know if paragliding athletethen reported to the RW pack to seek help from residents,” he said.

After the residents arrived, he only found out that the man who fell on his house was a paragliding athlete.

Andi also found the victim’s bones at his house.

“After everything was done, I immediately cleaned up and at that time I found the victim’s bones. I immediately thought, wow, the fall was so fast that a bone came out of his body,” he said.

He said the athlete’s position was under Andi’s desk.

“Pak Andi, how come the table and books on the table are intact but the victim is under the table,” Andi said, imitating the words of the Gedong Village Head to him.

In fact, the athlete fell from a height of about 200 meters and died.
