long-term roaming on the Blue Way

The Moselle, Metz, Nancy, Epinal, the Côte d’Or, ending with the Saône-et-Loire and the Rhône: the route of the Blue Way crosses the East of France, offering a great diversity of landscapes and beautiful heritage and cultural discoveries, such as the Pompidou Center in Metz, Place Stanislas in Nancy or the Abbey of Tournus.

The more seasoned will complete the route in about ten days, but the Voie Bleue can also be discovered in sections, taking advantage of a well-marked route, taking place mainly on cycle paths and with little elevation.

Ideas for a weekend on the Blue Lane

If you want to discover the route over a weekend, you can choose to connect Lyon to Mâcon in two days (85 km). Departing from the Confluences district, you will cross Beaujolais to reach Mâcon, before taking the train to return to Lyon.

Another idea: link Metz to Nancy in two days (67 km), on an easy route accessible to families.

Five days on the Blue Way

In four or five days, you can link Thionville to Épinal, crossing the Moselle and the Vosges, covering 180 km and enjoying a great diversity of atmospheres, along the canals, then the Moselle valley. You can stop off in Metz, admire the Roman aqueducts of Jouy-aux-Arches, take a detour to the castle of Montaigu and that of Épinal.

How much does it cost ?

In the Lyon area, a night in the Cerisaie bed and breakfast will cost you around €110 per night. Around Nancy, the Hermitage gite will welcome you with rooms, from €100 per night, breakfast included.

If you want to travel at a lower cost, you can opt for camping. A pitch with a tent and bicycles will cost you between 10 and 15 € per night, but you will need to be well equipped to carry all your camping equipment on your bike.

Also include the cost of your return train ticket in your budget. The Voie Bleue is indeed very well served by rail, so you can find many stations on your journey, to return to your starting point.

Please note: if transporting bicycles is free in a TER, you will be charged in addition to your ticket, if you are traveling on a TGV line.
