A police affidavit obtained by NBC Dallas-Fort Worth indicates that the 3-year-old boy and two other children, ages 2 and 4, were not wearing a seat belt in the back seat of the vehicle, according to the outlet.

The document notes that investigators later found a gun in the glove compartment, according to the station.

It also cites an autopsy that found gunpowder residue on the 3-year-old’s body indicating the shot was fired from close range, according to the station.

Police say the gun that was allegedly hidden belongs to Washington.

Kristin Lowman, deputy director of the Dallas Police Department’s public information office, told the station that they have detectives “working around the clock to answer a lot of questions to figure out who’s responsible.”
