“Today, at 11 a.m., the Ukrainian flag fluttered again in the industrial area of the Chernobyl NPP, and the Ukrainian anthem was sung,” the city council said in a statement.
The flag-raising ceremony was attended by NPP operational personnel, who ensured the security of NPP facilities during the occupation of Russian forces.
Russian troops left the NPP on Thursday and headed for the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. The NPP was occupied by Russian forces on the first day of the war on February 24.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian soldiers moved through the most heavily radiation-contaminated area without any protective equipment.
