The first official announcement of the BMW i3 eDrive35L (G28 LCI) was still limited to a front photo, but with the integration of the electric 3 Series on the Chinese website bmw.com.cn, many more details of the BMW 3 Series facelift 2022 have now been revealed . Because one thing is clear: the visual changes to the brand new i3 anticipate what the conventionally powered 3 Series variants will also face as part of this year’s facelift. The core series of the brand will then apparently not only receive new headlights and a modified front apron, but also, as we announced, the curved display from the BMW i4.
In the photos from China we now see the new front of the M Sport package with all the details. In addition to the redesigned front apron, the new headlights, which do not have the notch at the bottom edge in comparison to the previous look, are particularly eye-catching. The striking daytime running light elements move from bottom to top and will also make a clear difference at night. Rather in daylight, it is noticeable that the surround of the kidney is a bit wider – although it can theoretically also be a feature that is only intended to increase the presence of the Chinese long version.
No changes can be seen in the rear lights, these should also remain unchanged in the revised BMW 3 Series Touring (G21 LCI). Other details such as the aerodynamically covered wheels and the diffuser elements instead of tailpipes in the rear apron are specific to the i3 and are reserved for the Chinese electric 3 Series.
What is exciting for us, on the other hand, is a close look at the interior, because the new curved display is unmistakable here. Apparently, the widescreen display known from the i4 electric car is also associated with a change to the new iDrive generation ID 8, because all displays correspond to the look of the latest models. There had already been plenty of indications of this in the past, the new display network was also clearly recognizable on some Erlkönig photos of the BMW M3 Touring (G81).
In Germany, the BMW 3 Series facelift (G20 LCI / G21 LCI) will start at the beginning of the second half of 2022, so it won’t be long until the official presentation including all information on further engine and technology updates.
