A tiny artificial flower made of calcium carbonate is one of the images belonging to ‘FOTCIENCIA18’, an initiative that combines science, art and citizen participationpromoted by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), with the support of the Jesús Serra Foundation of Grupo Catalana Occidente.
This exhibition, which includes 49 photographs, “allows science to be observed from new and original points of view”, according to its authors. All of them have been taken by professionals or photography enthusiasts residing in Spain, and are accompanied by a text in which the author describes the scientific phenomenon portrayed.
They are images selected in the 18th edition of FOTCIENCIA, grouped into three areas: microscopic objects (Micro category), such as marine larvae or metal particles that pollute the air in our cities; larger events (General category), such as the incandescent lava flow from the La Palma volcano on its way down to the sea; and the best images of the different categories of FOTCIENCIAincluding the special modality ‘Science against COVID’, which has brought together photographs that reflect the importance of scientific research in the fight against the pandemic.
Together with a microprocessor ‘written’ with hieroglyphs or a wall formed by the fibers of an FFP2 mask, these types of images will premiere at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid on April 2 and will conclude on April 8.
After the passage of the exhibition by the Círculo de Bellas Artes, andThe CSIC will lend it free of charge to entities that request it and the exhibition will tour halls, museums and cultural, educational and research centers throughout Spain.
