On April 9, the women’s team of Meaux Gymnastics will participate in the first round of the Top 12, which sees the 12 best clubs in France compete. This first competition will take place at Rouen where they will face the local team.
A talented team
In the team that will face the Rouennaises, we will find gymnasts well known to the general public and others, younger, who have nevertheless already distinguished themselves in their short career.
Marine Boyer, several times French champion and European medallist, has already taken part in the Olympic Games twice. At 21, her great experience in competition automatically designated her as team captain. But she will be able to share her experience with her teammates, some of whom train, like her, at Insep (National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance).
We thus find there Lucie Henna and Cypriane Pilloy. The first is 17 years old and has already participated in several national and international competitions where she had won medals. The second is 15 years old and has also won numerous international medals.
We also find in this team Astria Nelo and Salsa Turning. The first is part of the Pôle Espoir de Meaux and is already emerging as one of the promising talents of women’s gymnastics. The second, meanwhile, shone many times by winning multiple competitions.
Semi-final goal
The stakes are high in this first competition. Indeed, Meaux Gymnastique is part of a pool bringing together Colomiers and Rouen. However, Colommiers had a very good performance against Rouen by winning 9 of his 12 duelson March 26 during the first day.
“They leave with a big advantage, underlines Patrick Andreani, the coach of this Top 12 team. We will have to take as many points in Rouen, which is not so simple because we are going to their land”. Nevertheless, the objective for Patrick Andréani remains to reach at least the semi-finals, an objective which he qualifies as “normal”: “not getting there would be a poor performance. Now nothing is done”.
Last week, the gymnasts from Meldium took part in tests for national competitions, which they did very well, an encouraging sign for the Top 12.
A fine history for Meaux in the Top 12
The Meaux club is in any case one of the great favorites of this competition. Since 2013, the club has won the Top 12 three times (in 2016, 2018 and 2019). In other years, gymnasts from Meldoise systematically appeared on the podium, except in 2017 when they arrived 4e.
Colommiers and Rouen do not claim such a prize list since the former have only participated in the Top 12 recently, in 2021 where they arrived 9eand the second were only on the podium in 2014, the year in which they nevertheless had first place.
But caution is still required: one competition does not make the other.
