According to journalists, by the end of March, the military leadership of the Russian Federation “finally reconciled” to the fact that it would not be possible to occupy Kyiv with “little bloodshed”, that is, the forces involved in the “special operation”, although even at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Putin and the Russian military expected the “special operation” to be easy. Now, according to the interlocutors of Russian journalists, the Russian authorities are considering taking Donbass exclusively under full control as the most “probable scenario.”
In addition, at the end of March, according to the newspaper, officials of the Russian government showed Putin data on the state of the Russian economy under the sanctions, according to which it is impossible to “at least somehow live normally” while under the influence of restrictions imposed by the West.
At the same time, three sources close to the Presidential Administration at once claim that Putin has not yet made a decision on what to do next. One of the journalists’ interlocutors said that the head of the aggressor state is currently being influenced by “different groups and people,” and he himself wants to listen to the position of both those who oppose the war in Ukraine and those who support the continuation of hostilities.
The interlocutor of the publication pointed out that people who are close to the political bloc of the Kremlin are in favor of the negotiations, and “powers on the Internet will be deployed” to support this position, and the continuation of hostilities is supported by the so-called “party of war”, which includes, in particular, the head Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin – they believe that “Putin himself is behind the fight to victory” and therefore “follow him.”
The publication also says that there are fears in the Presidential Administration that the “truce” could negatively affect Putin’s rating, since Russian society has already been “warmed up” by propaganda. Against this background, according to the interlocutors of the publication, the Presidential Administration held a meeting on how to explain to the citizens of the Russian Federation negotiations on a possible cessation of hostilities with Ukraine, but there were no “effective strategies” for this.
Two sources of journalists close to the Presidential Administration of Russia noted that the disappointment of the “patriotic public” with the actions of the authorities could be very great. Against this background, the Kremlin’s political bloc is preparing for a drop in ratings after the end of the war, especially in large cities such as Moscow or St. Petersburg. Closed presidential polls have shown that no more than half of the people there do not support the war against Ukraine. In this regard, according to Meduza’s sources, political strategists close to the Kremlin were tasked with developing “a new ideology for the country” and “some new national idea.”
Recall that earlier Putin, during a conversation with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, said that there are no conditions for a ceasefire in Ukraine yet.
We also wrote that Putin signed a decree on spring conscription in Russia.
