They carried signs that read ‘We will liberate Palestine in our lifetime’
Several hundred pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in New York on Wednesday to protest Israel-linked organizations, marking “Land Day”, an annual Palestinian protest event.
Protesters gathered outside Grand Central Station in Manhattan, while a small group of pro-Israel counter-protesters gathered across the street carrying Israeli flags and signs with the images of the 11 Israelis killed in terrorist attacks last week.
Police officers came to separate the two groups as they shouted at each other on either side of 42nd Street.
The pro-Palestinian group then marched through midtown Manhattan, stopping outside the offices of Israel-linked groups, including Friends of the IDF, the Central Fund of Israel and Ateret Cohanim.
They carried placards that read: “until victory”, “we will liberate Palestine in our lifetime” and “resistance until return”.
The demonstrators chanted: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”, “Resistance is justified when people are colonized”, “From New York to Gaza, let’s globalize the Intifada” and “There is only ‘only one solution – the Intifada revolution’.
Members of Naturei Karta, a fringe ultra-Orthodox anti-Zionist group, were present and sang chants such as “Judaism yes, Zionism no, the State of Israel must disappear.”
Protesters called for enforcement action against pro-Israel organizations in New York, including stripping them of their nonprofit status.
Wednesday’s protest coincided with a series of terror attacks in Israel, including a shooting that killed five people Tuesday in Bnei Brak.
