Barça plans to reinforce its forward line next summer with another signing that would come with the freedom letter, Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette. The French international would meet again at the Camp Nou with his teammate at the Emirates Stadium, Pierre-Emerik Aubameyang.
According to British sources that quote the newspaper ‘L’Équipe’, Arsenal is evaluating presenting a new renewal offer to Lacazette. Until now, the agreement has been impossible and the footballer, who will have his release letter on June 30, would be in the orbit of Olympique de Lyon and FC Barcelona.
Lacazette is completing a more than irregular season and in 29 games he has scored 6 goals and has distributed 8 assists. Some figures far from what his manager, Mikel Arteta, expects of him. The economic differences for its continuity may be part of this irregularity and in fact, at 30 years old, Alexandre values returning to Lyon, from which he left for London in 2017 in exchange for 53 million euros, taking advantage of the fact that he is free of transfer.
This circumstance would have put Barça on alert, too, which at the time already followed the French footballer. Arsenal’s reaction would have been to put on the table an extension for one year, with the option of one more season.
An affordable alternative
Mikel Arteta assured weeks ago that the future of Lacazette will not be clear until the end of the season, “when we know where we are going, to make a decision together (on the future of Lacazette),” said Arteta. “We agreed that the decision (about its continuity) will be made in the summer.”
Another thing is that the Arsenal manager agrees with having to postpone the decision for so long, even more so when he is aware that many clubs, including Barça, seek to strengthen their forward and they have Lacazette on the agenda along with other names as powerful as Haaland, Lewandowski or Salah, armored by their current contracts and extremely high market prices. The freedom letter makes it a more than attainable goal. His transfer value, according to ‘Transfermarkt’, is 20 million euros.
