New modules, new urban space and new material. the skatepark located in the neighborhood Alsace Pereire from Saint-Germain-en-Laye has had a facelift. A desire to change on this space that has become uncomfortable. “It’s an extremely used skatepark and the modules were in poor condition and completely obsolete compared to current practice,” says Marie Aguinet, deputy mayor for sport.
The set will have cost €496,000, a little more than expected, because of “the raw materials which exploded with the Covid”, specifies the deputy mayor.
A pleasant practice
Formerly made of metal, noisy, degraded and flexible, the City reused the old modules then stripped them and transformed them into concrete. A much more durable and pleasant material for practitioners.
“The generation of concrete skateparks is taking over for our greatest happiness, it’s much more pleasant. It is relatively versatile for skateboarding, scooters, a little less for BMX. There are a lot of modules, it encourages creativity, it’s cool. »
The location is ideal, in a place calm of the city contrary to what riders are used to having. “We are generally relegated to areas without homes, near major roads or cemeteries, there it is much better,” adds Nicolas.
It is a total of 1300 m² located in the middle of a wooded area, close to the youth service and the Frederic-Passy elementary school. An asset to capture all audiences. “It can attract families, welcomes Marie Aguinet. We also have a small agora to potentially be able to do class outside. »
An urban space
Hundreds of curious people have already come to discover all the facilities. In addition to the sports infrastructure, other spaces have been added. “It brings character to the park,” appreciates Vianney.
A corner hip-hop was created with a table of dj sound system which allows everyone to be able to mix. A breakdance area and a graffiti wall have also been set up to make room for the most creative.
“We heard that it had reopened and we wanted to take the family for a walk. I was doing graffiti on the expression wall in the old skatepark with my son and I see he’s still there so I’ll be back. As for the DJ table, it’s funny, the sound is average but it’s original”, explains Jérôme.
“The objective is to make this place a spot for the riders of the territory but also a place of expression and gathering for the youth. »
The skatepark is accessible to everyone, higher and steeper modules for experienced riders and smaller ones for beginners.
