But customers don’t have to know anything like that, and one German who bought a Tesla Model 3 was so unhappy with the performance of these driving assistants that he took the matter to court, writes the website of the German newspaper Spiegel.
–
According to the newspaper, the customer paid 6,300 euros (154,000 crowns) for the driving assistant software package, called “Full potential for autonomous driving”, but this was not compatible with the vehicle’s technology. As a result, assistance systems such as automatic overtaking of slower vehicles on the motorway did not work, driving behavior on motorway entrances or exits is reminiscent of a “drunk beginner driver” and the car does not register traffic lights and “Stop, give way” traffic signs at all.
–
According to the German configurator Tesla, the package, which now costs 7,500 euros (184,000 crowns), can recognize traffic lights and “stopwatches”. And it includes a lane change assistant, automatic parking or the Smart Summon function, which allows you to call the car from the parking space.
–
The Darmstadt District Court ruled in favor of the customer and ordered Tesla to buy his car back. Plaintiff’s lawyer Christoph Lindner, who, in his own words, runs Tesla, says the ruling sets a precedent and sends a signal that Tesla “must also vouch for the product’s confidently proclaimed properties.”
–
The carmaker, of course, appealed, stating that it was not aware of any defects in technology that could not be repaired. According to her, the systems worked according to the rules for assisted driving in Germany.
–
So we will probably have to wait for the final result. Elon Musk, founder and head of Tesla, has said in the past that a set of advanced driving assistants Full Self Driving Beta will be available in Europe sometime this year, if authorities allow, writes the website Electrek, which also reports on the event.
