BRUSSELS – A number of countries NATO strongly disagree regarding the extent of military assistance that the leadership bloc should provide United States of America (US) that to Ukraine and prospects for talks with Russia . So reports Bloomberg earlier this week, citing many sources and documents.

Some members are said to be “insisting” on avoiding direct war with Russia, and have even suggested President Vladimir Putin might use weapons of mass destruction if they arm Ukraine too heavily.

A French official was quoted as saying that sending tanks and planes would “pour oil on the fire.” A document described by Bloomberg states that some Western European countries are of the view that arms shipments to Kiev should be limited, due to concerns that the war could escalate out of control.

“Instead, the leaders of Britain, the Baltic states and most of Eastern Europe are calling on allies to send more weaponry to Ukraine, including anti-aircraft capabilities,” the report said. Russia TodayWednesday (30/3/2022).

Western countries have supplied Ukraine with weapons, including portable anti-tank and air defense systems, hand grenades, and machine guns, as well as body armor and other equipment.

Even so, they have rejected Kiev’s repeated pleas to provide it with fighter jets or impose a no-fly zone, which means shooting down a Russian warplane flying over Ukraine.

Another reported subject of internal debate is direct dialogue with Moscow. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have had several phone calls with Putin since the start of Russia’s offensive in Ukraine on February 24.

“Some NATO members believe that this attempt to broker peace is counterproductive and could be played in Putin’s hands,” Bloomberg quoted a document as saying.
