A man was arrested and taken into police custody in Roubaix after the discovery of his wife’s lifeless body overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the Lille prosecutor’s office said.
The body of this woman in her fifties was found at her home, the prosecution said. Her husband is heard “in the context of an investigation for spousal homicide”, he added, refusing “for the moment” to any other precision. According to a source close to the case, the husband was known to the police for acts of domestic violence.
113 feminicides in 2021
According to a report from the Ministry of the Interior, 146 women were victims of femicides in 2019 and 102 in 2020. The feminist collective against sexist and sexual violence #NousToutes counted 113 femicides in 2021. In total, in France, more than 200,000 women are victims of violence each year, according to the ministry.
